Select the pallbearers

If you have a casket present at the service, you might consider using pallbearers to escort it in and out. Caskets are not normally present during a memorial service, so pallbearers won’t be necessary.

Traditionally, there are 6 pallbearers as most caskets have 6 handles, but many caskets have handles front and back as well so you can accommodate 8 pallbearers.
When choosing your pallbearers, it is important to note that this is a great honour for the chosen ones. You would normally pick family members or close friends of the deceased, while keeping in mind that they have to be emotionally and physically strong enough.
You might consider choosing “honorary’ pallbearers to solve any potential problems by asking people to walk in front or behind the casket.
