Locate the deceased’s ID smartcard or green barcoded ID book and make certified copies.

This is important because you will need it to arrange the Death Certificate and deal with life insurance, bank accounts and funeral policies. If you can’t find the ID document, then you will need to get an affidavit from the SAPS, highlighting your relationship with the deceased.

You will need a certified copy of the ID for

• The Undertaker to arrange the Death Certificate
• Claiming on a policy
